Join your guides Edwin, Dakota, & Adam for this 4hr Bachata dance workshop open to All experience levels, no partner needed as we will rotate. This workshop will include partnerwork, footwork, body movement, musicality, culture and lots of fun. Bachata is a genre of dance born in the Dominican Republic that has now gained popularity around the world. Edwin & Dakota have traveled and taught Bachata around the globe and bring a wealth of experience their students, including in the areas of teaching, social dance, performance, music, and culture. They have been involved in a number of collaborations with Adam before, and now the three are excited to be teaching in Boulder.

1-2 pm Bachata Regional Styles w/ Edwin & Dakota: This workshop looks at Bachata elements found in various regions of the Dominican Republic and New York. This class will involve foundational steps, partnerwork, lead and follow, culture, figures and footwork
2-3 pm Bachata Footwork in Social Dancing "Playing with Rhythm" w/ Adam Taub: This class will have students learning footwork elements and then challenge them to use them within a social dance context. Footwork elements will involve syncopations, playing with the timing, drawing with the feet and more.
3-4 pm Merengue Típico w/ Edwin & Dakota: Merengue has had a huge influence on Bachata music and dance and this unique, and ever evolving workshop will not only help students become more familiar with Merengue as a national music/dance of Dominican Republic but also help them discover the highly energetic and fun perico ripiao (merengue tipico) which is one of the oldest afro-latin dances and one of the most influential in the global dance community. The focus of this class is on quality of steps, natural body movements, turn patterns and variations and capturing the energy of each song and rhythm section. (All levels)
4-5 pm Bachata Multi Media Case Studies w/Adam, Edwin & Dakota: This class will look at a few video clips of Bachata couples from the Dominican Republic and the break them down, and explore incorporating the elements in our own dance. We will look at both lead and follows roles and styles in class.
